27 Sep 06, Blog Migration Update - Migrated posts from Blogger to here. Photos and comments came over, but since photos are still hosted on Blogger, upload speed to WordPress is an issue. I noticed that photos don’t load on many of the older posts, or won’t reload; sometimes clearing my cache helped, but it is mostly a hosting issue.

The Plan: all photos are being converted, post by post, so they are stored on WordPress servers. This will take some time. Apologies for poor or no photo uploads on older posts. Also, tags will be added to all old posts, and this will also take quite a bit of time.

BTW: I read on a user forum that transferring files from Blogger to WordPress is fast - over 1000 posts in 2 to 3 minutes, said one blogger. Wrong. He also said it was seamless. Wrong again. It’s not that it’s hard, but I have over 300 posts on Blogger and it took 3-4 times of trying until everything came in. It took around an hour. At the end, a little message popped up that said, “That was hard! Go take a break.” I did; I was worn out.

BTW2: I guess because I had to restart my file transfer from Blogger several times, a few posts were duplicated. It wasn’t hard to delete them, although I saw something strange. One post came in three times, and two of the incidents showed no comments, while the third incident had the comments.

26 Sep 06, Moving Day - Today is the first day of officially being in my new blogging home, having relocated from Blogger. Now that I am beginning to settle in, I sure like the new digs better. I have felt the same way every time we’ve moved to a new home, or whenever I have stayed in a really nice hotel room (I travel WAY too much on business). Blogger posts have not been migrated over yet. It sounds easy, and I will be sure to back up my blog over on Blogger before I push the jump button.

23 Sep 06, First Day at WordPress - Wow, my first day here. Like a new house before you move in, it sure seems empty here. No posts, nothing of mine up on the fireplace mantle yet. Don’t get me wrong, though. I’m excited. Playing with templates is fun. I’ll give a few friends and family a sneak preview of some new looks and see what they have to say. I definitely want something brighter. While I like a lot of the minimalist looks, I don’t think that look is appropriate for the content of this blog. I want it warmer.

I can’t believe how much easier it is here, even for a guy like me who is barely qualified to be called a hacker. I know Blogger’s new Beta rollout has a lot of cool new features. I have a test site there, and have tried it out, but WordPress is ahead of the curve. I think I’m going to like my new home.

I keep having these urges to stretch into another dimension.
